A 20-year-old man has been arrested after another man suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg in an 'unprovoked assault' after a brawl erupted in Evesham.

The attack happened in Bridge Street in Evesham in the early hours of July 15 but West Mercia Police has made an arrest today (Wednesday) in connection with the assault during a brawl.

A man, 20, has now been arrested for GBH after the Bridge Street brawl after police identified a suspect in what has been an ongoing investigation.

The victim was said to have been kicked in the head and punched during what police have described as an unprovoked assault.

A suspect was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody at Worcester Police Station.

The arrest was carried out by the Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team.

We reported in July how the new neighbourhood police team was set up to tackle the crimes that 'really matter' to people.

Officers were recruited to the five NCFTs across the force area - with a sergeant leading a team of constables - in each of the Local Policing Areas (LPAs).

The NCFTs will be working to keep persistent offenders off the streets and reduce levels of high-impact crimes such as anti-social behaviour, drugs, major thefts, and criminal damage.
