ILLEGAL fishing along the River Avon has been reported by the Environment Agency following patrols.

The fisheries enforcement team from the Environment Agency have been patrolling the River Avon near Pershore and Evesham alongside volunteer bailiffs from the Angling Trust. 

Four people were reported for fishing illegally in the area.

In the vast majority of cases, you must have a rod fishing licence for England and Wales if you’re fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt or eel with a rod and line.

You can get a fine of up to £2,500 if you’re fishing in these areas and cannot show a valid rod fishing licence when asked.
