Mayor is re-elected

THE Mayor of Evesham, Councillor Alan Booth, was unanimously re-elected to serve a second year of office last night.

And in a packed town hall, he announced that two of his charities from last year - the Vale Volunteers and St John Ambulance would be joined this year by Evesham Cubs and Scouts.

Charity events during his first year raised more than £11,000 which he distributed to his original charities, which included Roundabout.

The Mayor's annual Civic Award was presented to photographer Chris Warren for his enthusiastic work over many years for the town's Talking Newspaper, while the Sports Personality went to former World Champion strongman Larry White, who is still the British and European champion.

Afterwards the guests were entertained in the Public Hall by a Birmingham-based Welsh male voice choir.

Cllr Mrs Roma Kirke will continue as deputy mayor for a second year.

Special guests on the night included members of the championship-winning Evesham United team led by manager Paul West.
